The Brayton Scholar Athlete Award

Purpose & Criteria
The Brayton Scholar Athlete Award has been awarded annually since 1984.  Joseph Brayton was a Geneva High School senior who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident shortly before graduation.  During his high school career, Joseph maintained the important balance between academics, athletics, and his love of music.  The award was established to encourage the importance of good scholarship in students who participate in sports programs at Geneva High School and is awarded to one outstanding senior male and female scholar-athlete.

Recipients will be announced at the annual Senior Awards Night in May.  Each will be awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship, and their names will join past recipients on an engraved plaque, which hangs in the trophy case outside the Geneva High School Contest Gym.

In order to be considered, candidates must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (non-weighted or weighted) and must have participated in or served as a manager for at least one school-sponsored sport during each year they attended Geneva High School. Other criteria include leadership, character and attitude.

The student’s participation is the consideration, not individual success or ability.

Selection
The selection committee will consist of a panel non-senior parents who can objectively review and decide on the recipients.  Names are withheld from the committee during the selection process.
